What would a fantasy novel be without a cache of interesting
weapons? Boring!
The weapons that appear in RHAPSODY were culled
[and sometimes adapted] from a wide range of historical arms and armor. Daystar
Clarion, the ancient flaming sword in the story, is modeled on a 14th century
Italian sword with a quillon, or finger guard. Achmed's cwellan, the
curved-crossbow-like missile weapon with a recoil arm and small bladed
projectiles, is modeled on an ancient Mongolian weapon. And of course Grunthor
carries a wide range of weapons from many different places, and loves every one
in his collection.
